Simply what is God Particle..?

I read and hear about God Particle so much in media but understood nothing. Media has tendency to hype things thing but nothing for layman. It makes sense, keeping the mystery sells. Had discussions with friends and colleges on this topic leading to no increase in knowledge at all.

So I decided to explore the topic and discuss in this blog. Since I am no scientist this is just the gist  of what I have gathered over internet, TV and from people around me. Please feel free to add comments and help understand Higgs Boson in layman terms.

Terms:

• Boson: Carrier (for e.g. photon for light. This  means boson is Higg's carrier.)
• Higgs: The all powerful Field which is every where in universe and is responsible for all mass.
• Higgs Boson: or Higg's Boson actually transfers mass from one particle to another.

Theory is based on standard model, Basic understandings: 

• There are 12 particles in universe which make all things.
• And four basic forces gravity, electromagnetic, strong and weak.
• Each force needs some kind of carrier to travel for e.g. light needs photons
